UK business visa
The UK business visa (Standard Visitor Visa – Business category) allows foreign professionals to stay temporarily in the UK for business, academic or cooperation purposes. It does not entitle the holder to work for a British company, but does authorize certain well-defined assignments.
For stays of less than 6 months: You don’t need to obtain a business visa; simply apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) by filling in the online ETA form.
What is the purpose of the British business visa?
The business visa is designed for visitors who wish to visit the UK on a professional basis, but who are not gainfully employed locally. It is intended for company directors, representatives, researchers, lecturers, investors, or members of a foreign company with links to British entities.
In particular, it allows you to :
- Attend meetings, conferences or trade shows
- Signing commercial contracts
- Audits, inspections, negotiations
- Give a talk or take part in a seminar
- Take a short training course (unpaid by a UK employer)
- Carry out scientific or academic missions for recognized universities or institutes
Who can apply for a UK business visa?
The business visa is open to any foreign national who is not eligible for an ETA electronic travel authorization, or who wishes to secure a legal framework for specific business activities.
Nationals of the European Union, the USA, Canada and other visa-exempt countries may, in some cases, enter without a visa for limited business activities, but a visa is recommended for repeated, lengthy or sensitive missions.

Can I work in the UK on a business visa?
No. The business visa does not authorize paid employment with a British company. Nor does it allow you to seek employment or settle permanently in the UK.
A specific work visa (e.g. Skilled Worker visa) is required for any regular, paid or prolonged professional activity.
What is the PBS points-based visa system?
The UK’s Points Based System (PBS) is primarily aimed at skilled workers, international students and innovative profiles capable of meeting the UK’s economic needs. It does not allow people to come for unskilled jobs or extended stays without a validated job offer.
